  1. Jeff says:

Can I just send it to the email address or do I have to post it somewhere public and send a link?

  2. Daniel says:

Very cool idea! Wish I had more time to prepare the essay. Hope I made the FB link work…had to enlist my more FB savy little brother to help. When will the winner or winner be chosen?

  3. Amber says:

Are kids eligible? Great idea either way :)

  4. When will we learn the winner(s) and how will they be notified? I didn’t see the email about this until late last night, but I did compose a somewhat coherent blog post at 2:30 am.

Since I will be traveling and don’t know where I will have wifi, I don’t know if I will know if I won. Maybe you could DM me on Twitter @snicketmom. :) Thinking optimistically about contest and weather!! :)

  5. vel says:

I’d like to enter and if I win, I’d like the freedom to give them to someone in the crowd who may not have had a chance to write and who really needs a seat. Would that be okay?

  6. Tom says:

The formation of civilization would have been impossible without religion. It provided the means by which strangers could be “one of us” because of common belief systems. The results were cooperation, agreements, followed by systems of laws, etc.

Now, however, because of universal communication technology, I think, religions and belief systems have become the means to divide and separate us all.

    Thanks for the opportunity!

    15 March 2012

March is women’s history month and while I do not consider myself to be a political geek nor a feminist, I find it necessary to address the asinine insidious behavior that has been going on in our country. I thought two and half months ago we started the new year for 2012 not 1812 or 1912.

I must confess I am a ‘live and let live’ kind of person. I am the last person to question why a seemingly healthy 30 something year old male would want and use a prescription for Viagra. To each his own.

However, I can longer remain quiet while I watch our country take several large steps backwards. What the heck is wrong with you people? I realize I am often too logical for my own good but this behavior I’m witnessing is so obviously degrading, deplorable and dangerous.

For those who feel the need to attack my character please allow me to set the record straight not that my personal life is any of your all’s damn business:

I am quite conservative in how I conduct myself and in the way I dress.
I am not promiscuous but rather prude.
I am not on the pill however I may have a medical reason to be on the pill and it is something I am seriously considering.

I was also considering relocating to Arizona but there is no reason for me to have a conversation with my employer regarding birth control. What is next?

Are women who use birth control and/or who have had an abortion going to be have numbers tattooed on their arms and be required to wear yellow brooches so that everyone will know that these women are “sluts” in the eyes of the GOP? Perhaps all of these women should be gathered and housed in a gated section of the city?

Last time I checked a woman could not get pregnant alone so what is happening to the men who rape, coerce, refuse protection, lie, cheat, and leave? Oh pardon me, yes men get to spread their seed without any repercussions because despite what the calendar says apparently we are living in biblical times.

    Back to Arizona:

Potential AZ Employer: I’d like to know the frequency, duration, and location of any and all sex acts of my supervisors, CEOs, managers and congressional reps.

It is none of my business and not information I wish to know just as my personal information is just that -personal. I realize we live in a society where many people are inclined to share personal information and the means of doing so are readily available via facebook and cell phones but that does not mean we should. Let’s use some discretion.

Please let me make the following perfectly clear: I will seek an abortion if, heaven forbid, I am ever the victim of rape or incest and I become pregnant as a result. I love children and would love to adopt one day but I’d kill myself before ever bringing a child into this world who was conceived as the result of a forced sex act. Why would you torture someone who has chosen to get an abortion by forcing them to receive a vaginal ultrasound? Members of the GOP let me offer you the following scenario:

An innocent young woman is brutally raped and she is not on birth control because there is no reason for her to be. She becomes pregnant and is suffering mental and physical trauma as a result of the attack. You are going spend the money for a vaginal ultrasound and further torture her? For what? How cruel and sinister! Since when did the GOP stand for G-d on Patrol? Perhaps all women should be provided free birth control so that when men decide to rape unwanted pregnancies won’t occur.

You may not agree with my choice and you have the right to not agree just as I have the right to not agree with you all and the direction I see women’s rights heading.

I am aware that there are those who utilize abortion as a form of birth control. Personally I do not feel this is appropriate but then address the heart of the issue -people who have unprotected sex who are not ready nor willing to be responsible parents. Don’t deny pregnant women whose lives may be in danger a chance to terminate their pregnancy and save themselves so that they may be able to bring another child into this world and raise them when they are physically and mentally able.

Guess what GOP? There are repercussions. For now I am planning to vote for every liberal woman who runs in my district.

    I’m every woman.

    Hear me roar.

  9. Mary says:

Hope you’ll post the winners here. I’d like to read them. But if I am one, I can’t check my email. I have to catch a bus soon.

  10. Ashley Will says:

Thanks for doing this contest. My husband and I were so happy to have VIP seats, especially coming all the way from Wyoming.

  11. Daniel says:

Thank you! The VIP seat made this an even more amazing experience. I came home motivated & inspired, and ready to really get involved.

  12. neurol says:

Will you be posting the winning essays. I’d like to see them all!

  13. Molly says:

Thank you so much for this opportunity! It was awesome for those of us who could never have afforded the cost of the passes to have a chance to earn some in this way. The Rally was an absolutely amazing experience for my husband and I, and I still am in awe and disbelief at the fact that I was able to be so close to such inspiring and talented heroes of mine. It was definitely one of the coolest experiences of my life, certainly unforgettable! I hope to one day find a way to contribute to this important cause like all the great speakers, performers and sponsors did and continue to do. Again, thank you!

  14. El says:

I was riding on the bus from Boston when the woman behind me found out she had won. But I never got any contact info for her… and we had been having a great conversation that I’d love to have been able to continue, whether via FB or otherwise. Also to send her the photos I took as we walked over to the rally site. Mary? You checking in here at all? I don’t think you’re any of the Mary’s above…
