Reason Rally Coalition Welcomes New Executive Director

The Reason Rally Coalition is proud to announce that Lyz Liddell, a widely respected freethought activist and organizer, has been hired to lead the coalition as its full-time Executive Director.

The 2016 Reason Rally, taking place June 4, 2016 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, will bring together atheists, humanists, and other members of the reality-based community for a joyous and inclusive celebration of reason, science, and critical thinking. The rally will feature an array of brilliant speakers and performers, including Cara Santa Maria, Paul Provenza, Richard Dawkins, and many more still to be announced.

Lyz Liddell served for many years as Director of Campus Organizing at the national Secular Student Alliance, where she won the respect of colleagues, students, and the wider freethought community for her skill and devotion. The 2016 Reason Rally Coalition, comprising 19 groups that span the atheist, skeptic, and humanist movement, elected Liddell to serve as its new Executive Director on December 2, taking over for interim coalition president Kelly Damerow, who is stepping down to tend to her duties leading the Secular Coalition for America.

“I’m excited to be able to dedicate my time and attention to planning and executing this monumental event, and for the opportunity to work with the talented and passionate people and organizations helping to make it happen,” said Liddell. “As we head into a frighteningly polarized presidential election year, where science and reality are rejected by those who seek the highest office in the land, the voice of reason is needed more than ever. We’re going to make sure that voice is loud and clear come June 4th, 2016!”

The 2016 Reason Rally will extend beyond the June 4th main event on the Mall, with a variety of events taking place over several days from Thursday June 2nd through Sunday June 5th.

Between 20,000 and 30,000 people were estimated to have attended the first Reason Rally in 2012, a first-of-its-kind event that showcased a thriving and positive movement for reason, science, and the equal status of nonbelievers.
